TEACHING PHILOSOPHY

My philosophy of education is that all children have their unique way of thinking and learning, and it’s my job to help cultivate it. I believe that children deserve to have different tools at their fingertips to help them gain the knowledge presented to them throughout their years. I often hear people say that they “can’t.” As an educator, I will help anyone see that they can if they put their minds to it.  I desire to provide these tools to help them along the journey of education and self-realization.

I believe that each child is creative in their way, and one of my goals as an educator is to help children discover what they are while they are young and help them build on it; that way, the students see all that they can do. Life goes on after school, and I want them to deal with the stress of everyday life post-school. As humans, we can create breathtakingly beautiful things, but many of us don’t know where to begin. There are so many standards out in the world, saying who we should be and what things should be, but as we know, the ones that succeed can think outside of that standard. As an art teacher, I want each of my students to leave my classroom feeling one step closer to figuring out all the beautiful things they can create.

As teachers, I believe it is our responsibility to be there for these children as their many guides through this life. They will have their parents, their friends, and us. Most children will spend up to 15 percent of their lifetime in school (Assuming that they complete school from kindergarten through 12th grade), which is a lot! That’s a lot of time that they spend with us. I believe that we must be there as willing listeners to children who need someone to talk to, and sometimes as teachers, we must see what isn’t being spoken. We will be there to group kids together to work collaboratively and learn through each other. I hope to help the children become more involved with their community and visit places in town when possible to help the students see how they can use what we learn in class in the real world.

In conclusion, I plan to be an educator that enables young minds to think creatively and differently because not one mind is the same, and there is so much that they can offer the world. I will provide a welcoming environment for children that need a safe place to create and learn and to know that negativity will be left at the door when they walk into my room.  I hope to become a teacher that the kids can trust and feel safe to talk to, no matter what.
